Some Christians Lack of Action
He leads me …
In the 1990’s our family were not well off financially and I had a job working in an apple orchard. All the apples that we picked that had the slightest blemish were not acceptable for export, so were left on the ground to rot. I thought that this was an incredible waste so I asked the property owner whether it was alright to take the apples off the ground and take them home. He had no problem with this and with his permission I was soon handing out plastic shopping bags full of apples to others in financial hard times like ourselves.
It then occurred to me that there was no reason why they did not come and help themselves. Then they could take what they wanted. I suggested it to several families, but no one took me up on the suggestion and I could never understand why.
There seem to be Christians like this who call on God to help them, but are not very happy about doing much to help their own situation. Proverbs 13:4 in the New International Version reads –
A sluggard’s appetite is never filled, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied.
In Matthew Chapters 5 to 7 Jesus tells us how to be His disciples. In Chapter 6 He talks about righteousness and treasure, and in verse 33 He says – But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (NASB)
What things? If we look at the preceding verses they include, money, clothes, food and drink. So we see that if we genuinely pursue Godly principles in the manner that Jesus intended, the Lord will take care of our physical needs.
Those of us that do seek to follow His ways, find that the Lords response is a whole lot more than just meeting our physical needs. He opens up our understanding to Scripture in ways we have not seen before, and we see life more from His perspective. This deepens our relationship with Him, and we become more open and more responsive to Him as well. The Lord then responds by providing more understanding, and so the process keeps repeating itself.
Anyone can have a healthy relationship with God. It is just over to us and how much we want it.
