The Demon-Possessed Man Healed (Part One)
He leads me …
In Mark 5:1-5 (NKJV), we read –
Then they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gadarenes. And when He had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind him, not even with chains, because he had often been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could anyone tame him. And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones.
When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshiped Him. And he cried out with a loud voice and said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God?
What if that person was running toward us? What would we have done?
What if God sent a very unlovable person into our lives? How would we respond? Would we be prejudiced against them? We all are prejudiced, in one way or another. God loves all people but who do we have the most problems with? What would happen if God sent a person from that group running to us? Would we show them the love of Christ, or remoteness and tension?
This man was alone. He was homeless. He was filthy. He had nothing going for him. When he saw Jesus, he rushed to see Him.
Jesus went there on purpose to meet this man. He did not have to go over to the Gadarenes. He could have landed further away but didn’t. He wanted to meet this man.
This naked, battered, awkward looking man, asked the question, that everyone of us needs to, not just once, but over and over again, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High.”
