Faith Rest

He leads me …

We read in Mark 4:35-41 of the disciples in a boat caught in a storm on the Sea of Galilea.

The account says that waves were breaking over the boat so that it was nearly swamped, and Jesus was asleep on a cushion at the back of the boat.

When we read this we probably think that Jesus must have been really exhausted. But there was more to it than that. He was exercising faith rest.

Faith rest is that beautiful place that Christians come to where they can truly let go and let God …

If we look at the biblical account we read how the disciples were using all their energy to bail out the water. They were grumpy with Jesus because He did not seem to care if they drowned.

They did not stop to think that it was Jesus that they had with them, and what He could do. They knew what He was capable of, and they could have asked Him what His plan was to overcome the storm. But they did not.

Jesus was quite justified in responding, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

Yes, Jesus calmed the storm. He knew it would all work out. With faith rest He had complete faith in His Father to have everything in control. Jesus did not have to worry about the slightest thing. So sure was He that everything would work out that He was able to sleep in the back of the boat in the middle of a storm.

Christians can enjoy the experience of faith rest too. When we have been through some tough times and have seen that God is there with us and His promises are true, we know we really can trust Him. We also know He will not allow anything to happen to us that is not part of His will.

This means that we do not have to worry about a thing. The Lord has it in hand. We just need to have the faith and the ability to step back and let Him have His way.

“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” (Matthew 6:31-33 NLT)
